Mirror Headboard

2022

role

designer & maker

ABOUT

I created a headboard for my bedroom based on two vintage mirrors I found on craigslist. They used to hang in a jewelry store on the Upper West side and I love how they defy uniformity.

IDEATION

shape

The shape is based on the angle of the mirrors bottom edge to the ground.

FABRICATION

plywood shaping

I shaped the rounded edges of the headboard with a jig saw on my Aunt's fire escape.

SEWING SAMPLES

one of one textiles & yarns

I made yarn from jersey t-shirts sourced from thrift stores. The strands were used in the long fringe skirts and knitted up to be mini skirts. In addition, I created yardage from donated white t-shirts (see top, middle).

construction

I assisted in cutting and sewing many of these looks for the show.
